Mammography

Screening for breast cancer with mammography can help detect breast cancer at earlier stages than by self-exam or physician exam alone.  Regional Family Medicine believes that early detection is the best strategy for battling breast cancer.

Our radiology department is equipped to provide digital screening mammography, which is a digital x-ray of the breast.  The digital images are then reviewed by board-certified radiologists who are experienced in the interpretation of these tests.  You will receive prompt notification of the results of your mammogram obtained through our office.

Along with breast self-exam and clinical breast exam by your doctor, this strategy offers the best approach to detecting cancers early, when treatment options are much more successful at achieving cures.

 Patient receiving a mammogram
  • Screening mammograms are used to check for breast cancer in patients who have no signs or symptoms of the disease.
  • Screening mammograms can help reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer among women ages 40 to 70.
  • NCI (National Cancer Institute) recommends that women age 40 or older have screening mammograms every 1 to 2 years.
